Interior Design tailored to specific client requirements
KCA International were commissioned to create the interior styling for the main saloon, owner’s stateroom and studio, and the guest suites on board the fi rst Marco Polo.
Their brief was to design a contemporary, luxurious environment with a hint of the East. What they have created is a sophisticated feast for the senses, combining contrasting colours and textures, and timeless and contemporary imaging.
The main saloon, owner’s stateroom and studio are a striking refl ection of the owner’s confi dent sense of style, while the guest suites are gentle, neutral environments as a generous welcoming gesture from the host to his visitors. Hand picked Macassar ebony with contrasting walnut and limed oak with polished metal accents transforms the woodwork into a strong feature in the main saloon.

This is complemented by the clean lines and neutral colours of the furniture, fabrics and accessories, with eff ective touches of gold and red accent colours. Large windows provide a bright environment with panoramic views by day. For evening, the clever use of recessed lighting, mirrors and an arrangement of lamps off ers a maximum variety of ambiances. The open plan arrangement of bar, seating and dining areas provides a functional yet fl exible arrangement that can cater for a large gathering or more intimate entertaining.

The Macassar ebony is also used in the owner’s stateroom, but here textured wall coverings and wardrobe doors create a so. er, more tactile environment. The circular pa. erns on the carpet have been inspired by the carefully manicured grounds of the minimalist ‘Ryoanji’ Zen gardens. Again the clever use of lighting and mirrors, with accent colours of gold and red, make this space a haven of opulence. The owner’s spacious bathroom features both a bath and a walk-in steam shower. Beautiful limestone walls contrast with Nero Portero marble fl oors. Here the vanity unit is a feature piece, comprising of a glass top with fl oating wash hand basins, elegant lacquered storage bases below and a dramatically backlit mirror above.
Asian infl uences in styling are continued in the guest suites, but here the use of light limed oak and plain fabrics combined with symmetrical design features create a neutral base for guests to se. le in and make their own with ease. The guest bathrooms are soothingly simple in their approach, using Forest Green marble, limed oak and natural stone colour walls to good eff ect.

A VIP cabin, two large guest cabins and a professional gymnasium are located on the lower deck. Accommodation for six crew is located forward of the guest accommodation. The captain’s double cabin is located forward on the main deck in what could be considered the very best location on the yacht. Direct access to both the wheelhouse and crew mess area steps put the captain in the very centre of the yacht’s activities.
